In the Forefront: Seattle Green Building

In 2005, the Seattle Green Building projects in Washington were hailed as the leading groups in the area for a movement towards more eco friendly ways of living. Boasting homes and offices with solar panels and other ways of producing harvesting solar energy to create solar power, the capital of Washington was well on its way to becoming a carefully watched area for the growing interest in eco friendly activities.

During 2005, many offices were forced to remodel into something more like the modern day green building. Seattle Green Building seemed to take this and run with it.  Though the state of Washington was at the forefront of the green building remodeling back when it became popular in 2005, they have remained well-informed. In fact, the fairly well-known company, Starbucks, regularly donates part of their profit to charity on top of remaking all of the cups so that they use more recycled plastic and paper.

Obviously, the example of Starbucks and their new interest in recycling cups is not the same as the original Seattle Green Building operation, but it still shows how Washington, as a state, stays on top of eco-friendly things. Like the beginning of the green house revolution, Starbucks was also started in Seattle and maintains its headquarters there today.

How to Stay a Cut above the Rest in the Eco World of Today: Washington

The switch to a more green home and neighborhood leads to a longer sustainability for the heating and cooling systems, as they will not need to be used as often.  In addition to this, Seattle Green Building is easy and sustainable in terms of both time and money, as the investment pays off within the first five years due to the amount of money being saved.

Though the Seattle Green Building plan was large, it was not the only part of the state that had been affected by the growing interest in doing their part to keep the earth clean.  Bellevue, Tacoma, and Federal Way also have similar programs, though their results were not as well known as Seattle’s.
