Planning a Seattle Home Improvement? Go Green with Eco-friendly Products

These past few years, the green movement has greatly influenced home renovation. Environment-friendly products and materials have been introduced in the market. Innovative materials have been a lucrative business for the environments protection. Prices of environment sensitive products have become competitive and affordable.

Products like solar thermal systems have been in the market since the late ‘70s during the first energy crisis. Since then, other products have been invented such as solar water heaters, solar pool heating systems, and solar electric systems to name a few. Many homes are now using solar panels to sustain their electrical system.

New materials have been constructed such as solid pseudo-stone countertops made from recycled materials that resemble the real stone.   They are made from eco-friendly materials like recycled papers and resins that don’t release harmful levels of volatile organic compound (VOCs).

A great product that is eco-friendly is the low or no VOCs paints that come in a variety of colors. Paints that are earth-based are good on the walls, as well as our better for our health. Eco-friendly paints let the walls breathe while many other paints suffocate the walls.   Clay and lime-based paints are usually found in high-end houses.

Recycled woods are also used in making wood floors, planks and panels.   Reclaimed wood from old houses can also be a great statement in the aesthetic value of the house design, like an old wood panel door and or staircase. They depict the history and richness where it was reclaimed.

There is also eco-sensitive insulation, which is another option to go green. It is denim insulation. Gone are the days of using asbestos-based insulation that is harmful to our health.

Water conservation is also an issue in the green movement. Using Energy-Star appliances, like washers and dryers and dishwashers is recommended. The dual-flush toilets and low-flushed toilets can save water and a good amount of money on your water bills.
